Executive Director, University of Idaho Foundation, Inc. 

 

Major Function 
 

The mission of the University of Idaho Foundation, Inc. is to secure, manage, and distribute private support to enhance the growth and development of the University of Idaho.

 

The Executive Director of the University of Idaho Foundation, Inc. is responsible for strategic management of the organization including board relations, financial operations, and investment management.  Reporting to the Foundationís Board of Directors, this individual leads a professional staff and oversees the management of over $250 million in assets and a $2 million annual operating budget.  Working in close collaboration with the University of Idaho President and their senior leadership team, this individual should have significant experience leading a dynamic organization built on partnerships and shared goals.  The successful candidate will sustain and enhance the current organizational culture of collaboration, integrity, respect and success. The candidate shall have willingness to travel and work odd hours and weekends.  This position is located in Moscow, Idaho, a community ranked by multiple publications among the best places in the nation to live.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
Manages the University of Idaho Foundation, Inc. by:
 
Strategic Leadership

         Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Idaho Foundation, Inc.

         Provide strategic leadership and management for the organization

         Lead the development of strategies and tactics to fulfill the mission and vision of the Foundation

         Manage the implementation of the Foundationís strategic plan

         Create and foster an environment that values personal responsibility and accountability as well as develop, train and inspire a cohesive team

         Ensure effective collaboration with, and support of, University Advancement and other University constituents

 
Operational Management

         Directly supervise and manage the Foundationís staff

         Develop and manage the budget; ensure prudent and effective management of revenues and expenses

         Plan, prioritize and ensure that internal processes and programs are efficient, effective, and reflect best practices

         Establish and maintain a positive, supportive operation in which high quality services are delivered effectively and efficiently

         Ensure donor data and records are secure and maintained in a current, accurate and usable form.

         Oversee the audit process as well as ensure compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory, and governance provisions

         Ensure maintenance, usability, transparency and effectiveness of financial reporting systems

 
Asset Management

         Communicate key financial and performance outcomes to the Board of Directors, donors, University constituents, and external regulatory agencies as appropriate

         In concert with the Board of Directors, develop and implement investment strategies

         Maintain an understanding of, and implement the Foundationís investment philosophies and strategies

 
Board Relations

         Act as principal liaison to the Foundationís Board of Directors

         Assist in identifying, recruiting and supporting new Board members

         Plan effective Board meetings and activities

         Conduct board training and develop strategies for increased board engagement

 
University and Affiliated Organization Partnership

         Serve as a principal liaison between the Foundation, the President and University leadership

         Manage and cultivate relationships, activities and functions within the Foundation to ensure operational synergy with the University and its affiliated organizations

         Serve as the principal liaison between the Foundation and the University Vice President of Advancement and participate on the Vice Presidentís senior leadership team.

         Represent the Foundation and the University as an ambassador at appropriate events and activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

The Executive Director should demonstrate the following skills, qualities and experience: 

         Bachelorís degree plus at least eight (8) years professional experience in a senior management role

         Results-driven with a proven track record of ethical and strategic leadership, integrity, collaborative planning and problem solving, and positive program and personnel management

         Proven ability to drive innovative change

         Experience working collaboratively with constituent groups

         Experience motivating and working successfully with volunteers and volunteer boards

         Experience with strategic planning processes and implementation

         Excellent management, communication, interpersonal, verbal, written and motivational skills

         Demonstrated ability to build and inspire a collaborative, coordinated team

         The ability to develop effective relationships and to inspire trust

         Proven management and financial skills

         The ability to lead through example, teamwork and collaboration

         The ability to think operationally and strategically

         The ability to develop, implement and achieve organizational goals and policies

         The capacity to handle sensitive issues with diplomacy

         Knowledge of information technology with a high level of financial and management system literacy

 

Must:  Applicants who are selected as final possible candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.*

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

         Five or more years of progressive success in a senior management role, preferably in higher education at a public university or other institutionally-related foundation, including success as a participating member of the organizationís leadership team

         Advanced degree in a field related to the positionís responsibilities

         Significant investment and asset management experience

         Experience managing and implementing multi-department budgets; understanding of proper non-profit financial management and investment practices

         Familiarity with Idahoís communities and culture
